For Educators or Organizers interested in requesting NCOG in Classrooms or Community Events

We love bringing neuroscience to learners of all ages, backgrounds, and education levels.

For scientists interested in being more involved with NCOG

We would love to have you volunteer with us! Our primary mode of communication is via our NCOG Slack channel, open to all neuroscientists (grad, post-doc, faculty, staff scientist).

Additional information of our available activity styles for 6th-12th grade teachers

We currently offer 4 main options, listed below, but will of course work with your team to figure out the best activity for you and your students!

In-person, hands-on activities

We have a number of hands-on activities that we have facilitated at multiple outreach events that demonstrate basic neuroscience concepts such as plasticity, neuroanatomy, and neural communication.

Lesson Plan Development

Have a neuroscience topic that you want to teach your students but want more expertise in? Let us help develop your lesson plans by suggesting key takeaway concepts and activities or exercises to learn such concepts.

While we do not have formal curriculum development experience for K-12 students, we all have experience as teaching instructors for undergraduate coursework.

We can adjust our involvement in this collaboration as best suits your needs. Please let us know what you require from us.

Meet a neuroscientist

An in-person or virtual presentation by a UW Neuroscience PhD student to talk about their research and how it relates to your classroom’s curriculum. This can be related to biology, computers, ethics, or careers.

Combination!

Some combination of the three above options. We are open to collaborating with you to introduce your students to neuroscience at the level you think necessary and beneficial.

If you are unsure which form to fill out or neither describes you, please feel free to email us at ncog.uw@gmail.com!
